DUP Leader Peter Robinson has said he would welcome the publication of the Prime Minister’s proposals on the financing of Policing & Justice powers and restated his Party’s commitment to resolving the outstanding issues. Commenting Mr Robinson said,
“There has been some speculation regarding the publication of proposals put forward by the Prime Minister on Policing & Justice. I would welcome the publication of Prime Minister’s proposals to inform the public on this important issue. I also believe it would be most useful for the Prime Minister’s proposals to be shared with the Assembly & Executive Review Committee.
Over the coming days I will be discussing the Government’s proposals with the Chief Constable, the head of the Northern Ireland Court Service and the other Party leaders in the Assembly. There are still two issues which require further clarification and I will continue to pursue these.
We continue to work steadily through the various issues that require agreement as set out in our previous process paper. In addition to finance arrangements, work remains to be done on other institutional arrangements as well as measures that are needed in order to achieve community confidence.”
