“Unfortunately for someone who trades under the title of being a ‘traditional unionist’ Jim Allister seems very content not only to buy but also sell Sinn Fein propaganda. However, we shouldn’t be surprised that a Party whose sole ambition is to make Sinn Fein the largest Party should take such an approach. Jim must surely be in line for Sinn Fein’s salesman of the month award.
Whilst Jim Allister may form his strategy based on the words of Gerry Adams the DUP does not take such a naive and thoughtless approach.
Our strategy is not amended or redrawn just because Gerry Adams tries to calm unease in republicans ranks by coming out with some outdated mantra about a united-Ireland. As a result of the strategic actions of strong unionist leaders, even Sinn Fein supporters recognise that the united-Ireland myth has gone up in smoke.
Jim Allister may wish to ride on the back of Sinn Fein’s strategy but the DUP will base our strategy on what is in the best interests of Northern Ireland.”
